Symptoms:
The main symptom to the driver is the illumination of the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). You will likely not notice any drivability problems. If the substrate inside the catalytic converter is broken or failed, it may be restricting the exhaust which will result in a feeling of reduced power or poor engine running.
Possible Causes:
- Leaking Exhaust Manifold; CAT; Silencer or Exhaust Pipe
- Damaged or failed 02 Sensor
- Engine coolant temperature sensor
- Ignition issues
- Poorly performing catalyst
- Impact damage
- Coolant contamination
Possible Solutions:
- Replace faulty exhaust components
- Test or replace 02 Sensor
- Remedy faulty ignition
- Replace the catalyst if necessary
