Our Technical Team at EEC have been working hard to help diagnose faults in the vehicle’s emission system, whilst educating the aftermarket on the importance of correctly identifying issues on customers cars through thorough testing.
A customer’s Audi A4 Avant was presented to a specialist garage in Dorset recently, with a DPF Fault stored in the computer, and couldn’t be regenerated because it had been clogged up so much. The garage removed the pressure sensors, and added a DPF cleaner into the system, but this could not clear the fault because the DPF was too blocked.
They then replaced the DPF, yet on testing the vehicle, it twice went into Limp mode, and regenerating the DPF only just met acceptable levels, leaving the vehicle with exactly the same fault.
The garage was only using a simplistic diagnostic computer, which only accounted for electrical problems, and not mechanical ones.
When the vehicle was fully checked over, we discovered that the timing was out, which happened when the timing belt was changed, leading to a constant blocking of the DPF.
This simple check of the mechanics solved a problem with a vehicle that had had several thousand pounds spent on diagnostics and replacement parts over many months.
EEC is committed to improving the aftermarket’s knowledge of the vehicle emissions system and is pleased to providing training sessions for technicians, garage and factor owners, both privately and at shows.
